VZPR - Visual zip password recovery processor
This product features an automatic mode that selects the recovery approach as well as the usual brute force, dictionary, plaintext and template attacks. One unique feature is the ability to spread a brute force attack across a number of PC's (which may be reason enough for purchase by itself).
The latest version (5.2) is the second fastest in brute force performance. This means that this package can try more passwords in a given time than the other packages. We should note that this is not the sole criteria for choosing a recovery package, but it is definately worth taking into account, since often the only way to recover a password if you don't have a decrypted file is to try a large number of passwords - the faster that this can be done, the better.
The product's other strengths include the automatic recovery (which can be started and left to optimise the brute force recovery) and the multicomputer mode which facilitates brute force recovery of very long passwords (by spreading the processing load across multiple PC's, you can try more passwords in the same time). This feature does not require networking - it simply divides the search space up based on the PC's available. This feature would be useful if you have access to unused PC's that are available overnight or over a weekend.
This product is attractively priced with free upgrades to registered users and is being actively developed by the author. The latest release incorporate performance enhancements. Whilst we prefer the user interfaces of some of the other products, the value, features and power of this tool are compelling.
